Garmin Edge 605/705 Rebate

Thursday, January 28, 2010

One of the most useful cycling gadgets that I've encountered in the past year is the Garmin Edge; I received an Edge 500 for Christmas, and it's one of the coolest and most useful tools I own.  There are five total models in the series: Edge 205, 305, 500, 605, and 705.  As you might imagine, the features improve as you scale the line.  All are IPX7 water resistant for your less than dry rides, and data transfer is as simple as plugging into a USB port on your computer and uploading to a free, online account, which means you don't have to be on one particular computer to access data.  For most cyclists, the three most useful versions are the 500, 605, and 705.

The Garmin Edge 500, like the one that I have, is the newcomer to the line up.  The 500 is a very powerful, but small, ANT+, GPS-based cycling computer.  It mounts to your stem or handlebar with a quarter-turn, banded mount.  And though it's small, the screen size is a healthy 4cm x 3cm that utilizes wholly visible and easy to read fonts.  There are four toggle screens that allow you to customize the data display to whichever values are most valuable to your training.  Also, because it is ANT+ compatible, the Edge 500 will automatically detect and record your ANT+ power meters like SRM,

Report from Trainer Night - The Flying Scotsman

Thursday, January 21, 2010

Last night we had a good core of ten cyclists spinning it out as we screened the first half of The Flying Scotsman, which is the story of Graeme Obree, an effectively unknown Scottish cyclist who twice broke the Hour Record and also sports the rainbow stripes from two individual pursuit titles ('93 and '95).  He is perhaps best known for challenging cycling innovation and designing his own radically different bicycles that push the envelope for performance.

Spinsday (Wednesday Night Spinema)

Friday, January 15, 2010

It's been too long since we've seen many of you, so we are going to adopt a little mid-week winter tradition - a Wednesday night indoor ride.  We originally had planned to call them "Trainer Tuesdays," but since we are now hosting them on Wednesdays, that obviously would create a bit of marketing confusion.  We're currently taking submissions for a title upgrade, so get out your best thinking cap!

If you've been in recently, you've seen that we've rearranged the shop floor, so we now have plenty of space for folks to bring their bikes and trainers and join us for a workout!  We also plan to screen some of our favorite cycling films, which will help to serve as a reminder of why we are riding our bikes inside anyhow.  We'll start at 6pm, every Wednesday, now through February; bring your bike; bring your trainer.  We'll provide water and elete will provide electrolytes!  Come one, come all; work out at your own pace, and with your friends!  How could an indoor ride be any better?

Old Man Winter Has Officially Arrived!

Friday, January 8, 2010

Winter is, for many of the less fortunate, repair time.  Time to drop the bike off at the shop for the major projects, which means that you take some time off or pick up a new hobby with a little New Year's Resolve.  Well, not this year.  We are really pleased to announce that we now have RockShox demo forks available in three different models: Reba Team Dual Air, Revelation Team Dual Air, and Reba 29 Team Dual Air!  If you've been toying with the idea of a fork upgrade, but aren't sure how it will change the feel of the bike, let us set you up for a demo!  The three places that really determine the feel of your ride are frame, fork, and wheels.  Take the fork out to your turf, and put it to your own test; it might just be the motivation you need to keep rolling right through Old Man Winter!  This also means that if you are bringing us your bike for a fork repair, we can set you up with a temporary replacement so you can keep your tires in the dirt while we perform your maintenance or arrange for factory direct service.

The Revelation is on an all new chassis for 2010, and with travel options all the way up to 150mm, this is one mean fork. Check SRAM's website for more info on all of the available options for each of these models, and then come in and feel one for yourself!  All feature Dual Air, which allows for independent tuning of the positive and negative air spring chambers and is among the lightest air spring systems available, Dual Flow independent damping circuits (with external beginning/ending rebound adjustability), and BlackBox Motion Control, which adds "Dual Flow damping which allows separate return speeds for big and small hits resulting in suspension that floats over both stutter-bumps and root webs. The titanium spring and carbon fiber compression knob are just dead sexy."  These aren't your grandpa's RockShox.

And while you're out riding in these unprecendented frigid temperatures, if you're looking for some secrets to warmth, here are my picks:

O'Bannon Woods Trail Day - Sunday, January 10th, 10:00am

Wednesday, January 6, 2010

Thanks to Paul Arlinghaus and Chris Ward, there will be another trail building day at O'Bannon Woods State Park in Corydon, IN this Sunday!

This property has things you would never expect to find in Indiana: 20-foot water falls, caves with water flowing out, boulder fields, cliffs, pine forests, cedar forests, and more! There is potential for 40 to 50 miles of trail and Indiana's State Parks leadership is anxious to get 15 more miles of trail on the ground by the end of 2010. Please come down for a trail day on Sunday, January 10th. There will be hikes at 10:00AM and 12:30 AM to show off the areas the first trails will be built, with options for trail building and exploration rides. Meet at the Class A Campground at 10:00am.
