The Revelation is on an all new chassis for 2010, and with travel options all the way up to 150mm, this is one mean fork. Check SRAM's website for more info on all of the available options for each of these models, and then come in and feel one for yourself! All feature Dual Air, which allows for independent tuning of the positive and negative air spring chambers and is among the lightest air spring systems available, Dual Flow independent damping circuits (with external beginning/ending rebound adjustability), and BlackBox Motion Control, which adds "Dual Flow damping which allows separate return speeds for big and small hits resulting in suspension that floats over both stutter-bumps and root webs. The titanium spring and carbon fiber compression knob are just dead sexy." These aren't your grandpa's RockShox.
And while you're out riding in these unprecendented frigid temperatures, if you're looking for some secrets to warmth, here are my picks:
1. Your core probably feels warm. But if your hands and feet are beginning to resemble igloos, then it's well worth your time to take a closer look. A truly warm core leads to much, much warmer extremities. So, post ride, check your baselayer. If it is holding any moisture, consider upgrading to the Craft ProWarm. You'll find that the anatomically mapped ventilation keeps you bone dry and ultra warm for the long haul. Even after the most intense climbs and sprints, despite an outpouring of sweat, you'll still be dry. And that translates to warmer hands and feet. And, to top it off, the Pro Warm is available in both men's and women's sizing!
2. Tights are great for keeping your legs warm, but tights with articulated and vented knees are great for preventing you from overheating. I suggest the Craft Storm Tight. This is a thermal tight with a wind blocking, but breathable front that also does quite a nice job of repelling that unrelenting drip from the hose of your almost frozen hydration pack. Very, very flexible fabric with articulated knees with protected vents. Perfect for letting out that little bit of extra hot air; that's what I call climate control. Like the Pro Warm, the Storm Tights have specific men's and women's sizing.
3. On your hands, you want something that gives you the ultimate protection from the cold, but also allows you the dexterity to move about your machine. For this, go with the Siberian Glove from Craft. This is a glove that is thin and light while still providing complete wind and weatherproof protection from here to Siberia. Keep your dexterity, and stay warm. The reinforced grips on the palm help to inspire no-slip confidence while also providing for multiple season durability.
4. For the ultimate foot warmth, I'll look at two parts. The first is the sock. The Resistor Sock from Sugoi is a foolproof way to keep your tootsies toasty. These are totally wind and waterproof, and with the two-ply laminant, they are thick enough to provide the perfect amount of insulation without being bulky. They're also nice and tall to keep all the snow, ice, and other debris out!
5. The best way to keep your feet happy is with winter boots like the Eskimo by Gaerne, available in sizes 39 - 48. The upper is completely waterproof, which makes it perfect for slushy road conditions and ice cold creek crossings; in fact, I've used them for both. On the inside, your feet are gently wrapped with 3M Thinsulate, which makes for ultralight, super warmth. The liner is also treated with Plasmaterial, which is an eco-friendly, hygenic treatment that pulls the moisture away from the foot, keeping you dry. Constructed to the same high standards that you would expect of all Gaerne shoes, these are the ultimate winter performance piece.
Call, click, or best yet, come by and check out some winter upgrades for yourself!
